=Food Hunt= Penang - Private Dinner @ Dining Room, Macalister Mansion

Gibson was attending a business networking dinner hosted at Macalister Mansion, and this was also his first experience of a full course dinner prepared by the new Executive Chef Eric Heijkoop. Due to this was a private dinner, it is impolite for Gibson to ask for the price.

It was a love at first bite for Gibson as he liked the new chef’s creativity with food. Chef Eric Heijkoop was able to skillfully present his dishes in such a way that retains the original taste of the ingredients, while making surprise tweaks along the way. As shown in the picture, the Amuse bouche that is served with some popcorn in it. Interesting right?

Gibson had two bread buns for the night. The taste and the fluffy texture of the bun were so irresistible.

Carpaccio of Beef, Crème of Pickled Onion, Miso Cured Egg Yolk, Tomato Chutney and Anchovies Soil
“Raw” Appetizer. Just dab the raw beef with the anchovy crumbs, and the saltiness of the anchovies blended well with the meat while giving it a crunchy texture. It was just so delicious.

Baby Squid Calamari Skewers with Coriander Chutney, Tempura of Jalapenos and Tomato Salsa
Another Appetizer, but this one with a bit of spiciness to ensure that you are ready for the main course.

Grilled Sirloin Steak with Black Potato, Pickled Cabbage Stems, Enoki Straw and Miso Pepper Sauce
2 choices for the night main course, Gibson chose the beef as MM has a very good reputation with their beef. And Gibson was “spot on” with his choice as the beef is tender and juicy. He made a personal guess that the meat was medium rare and the sweet Miso Pepper sauce made it superb.

Confit Salmon with Wasabi Furikake, Chili Braised Red Onion, and Ponzu Dressing
The other main dish that Gibson did not chose, so he is unable to make any comment on it.

Chocolate Coral with Mascarpone Yogurt Sauce, Amaretto Crumble and Espresso Ice Cream
The dessert may look too brownish, but you will love it when taste it, especially the small light brown Espresso Ice Cream, not too bitter nor too sweet, just the right coffee aroma for the finale.
