Two decades after opening, Sri Sawadee Thai Food Restaurant with a focus on Thai fusion cuisine, has now transformed itself to become part of Penang’s growing café culture.
The feature that impresses me most is that the creative fusion touch does not hide the best of the well known Thai dishes. You get the best of two worlds on one plate.
Somtum Mamuang (Krabu Mango) RM8.90
A very spicy appetizer but with the perfect balance of flavours. To add texture to the dish, the Somtum are accompanied by deep-fried Wantan wrapper. Besides added crunchiness to the dish, the pastry enhances the flavour of the fruit in the Somtum.
Tom Yum Stir-Fry Seafood Spaghetti RM20.90
This is one of Gibson’s favourite dishes in Sri Sawadee. It tastes much better than its first appearance. Gibson really likes how the chefs blend the Tom Yum taste to the spaghetti. The seafood is always fresh. The garlic bread that comes with the dish does not really add much to the overall impression.
Glasspot Jumbo Prawns Goong Woonsen RM28.90
Creamy but not too creamy, the hint of rice wine gives a unique yet very Thai flavour. Portion size is ample for two people.
Sawadee Crab-cake burger with het tod (Mushrooms) RM18.90
The burger filling is a mixture of pork and crab with wasabi added to provide a slight spiciness. The dish is served with salad and tempura style Shitake Mushroom.
Pad Thai with Jumbo Prawns RM17.90
Original Thai Flat Rice Noodles made of glutinous rice, so....expect some “strength” in the noodles.
Pandan Cheesecake with Gula Melaka Drizzle RM15
Those with a sweet tooth will love this. Sweetness with aroma, the good as it gets.
