There are many Cantonese restaurants in town, but Spring Town Restaurant at Jalan Seang Teik may be a good choice, if you are willing to pay a bit more for good food.
It was quite crowded on the day when Gibson visited the restaurant during lunch time, although the services may look a bit chaotic, but surprisingly it is quite prompt. However, Gibson felt that it was a bit pricey as the portions were rather small, and the English version of the menu may not correspond to the Chinese version.
Braised Bean Curd with Eggplant RM12.80 is Gibson’s favorite dish. Generally the dishes prepared in this restaurant can be consider a bit salty by Cantonese standards, however Penangites would prefer it this way.
Stewed Garoupa Belly with Acid Chilli Soup RM25.80
In Chinese, it says fish head but in English it becomes belly, not sure why the translation gets it so different, but the dish is sour spicy for sure.
Sautéed String Bean & Anchovies with Hu Nan Style RM12.80
Like the crunchiness of the string bean, refreshing in a salty way.
Steamed Minced Pork with Salted Fish & Ginger RM13.80
Sautéed Pork Belly with Spicy RM14.80
Since Cantonese are supposed to be good with roasted meat, the pork belly here is also a good choice.
Deep Fried Diced Chicken & Garlic with Hong Kong Style RM16.80
Gibson finds it a bit oily and tough, not really his cup of tea.
Poached Chinese Spinach with 3 kinds of Egg in Superior Stock RM13.80
Roasted Chicken with Hong Kong Style (Half) RM18
