=Food Hunt= Penang - Da Shu Xia Seafood House (Weld Quay)

This is Slipper Lobster that is commonly mistaken as “mini lobster”. The best things about these prawns are the flesh beneath its hard shell, juicy and chewy, and very pricy too. The selling price in this Da Shu Xia Seafood House is RM10 for 100gram.



Gibson ordered the Slipper Lobster to cook with Salt and Pepper, which they slice the prawns into halves, then cook it with Garlic, Ginger, Spring Onion and Chili. However the spices don’t really add any flavor to the prawns, but the freshness of the prawns that make a difference.



This is Gibson first visit after Da Shu Xia Seafood House move to its new location. There were 8 adults and 3 kids at dinner, and we ordered 7 dishes that cost a total of RM490. The receipt contains no details, and since the restaurant is very full on Saturday night, Gibson can’t confirm the prices with the owner, so a guess is the best option.

Sour Sweet Crab- RM198
3 flavor Golden Threadfin Bream- RM97
Salt and Pepper Slipper Lobster- Rm90
Stir Fry Sweet potato leaves- RM25
Spicy Sweet potato leaves- RM25
Mami Chicken- RM40
Spicy Clam (Kapa) - RM15
Assuming the rice and soup are free.



The Mami Chicken is one of the signature dishes in this restaurant; it tastes almost like “Pei Pa” style Roasted duck.



Spicy Clam tastes quite normal.



Gibson likes the 3 flavor Golden Threadfin Bream, as they are deep fried first, then the 3 flavor sauce with a touch of rice wine is poured onto the fish, and the rice wine enhances the sweetness of the fish.



The crabs are meat crabs, no complaints as the portion were quite big, lot of meats and very fresh.



The same vegetable is cooked in two different ways.



Before our dishes are served, they provide us with some appetizer snacks, and a bowl of peanut pork rib soup to start.

The new place is definitely nicer if compared to their old weld quay location. However, Gibson found it a bit pricy, though the taste and friendliness remain the same.

The price list presented here is as on 24th October, the day when I visited the restaurant, They do not charge 6% GST nor service charge.
